40 Persimmon Lane Wildwood, Missouri 63025 November 6, 2000 To Those Concerned: This letter regards Dave Sherohman and my experiences working with him. Dave and I have worked together in the Software Development group at Bridgecom.com, Inc. for the last year. For part of that year, I was manager of software development at Bridgecom. During the year that Dave and I have worked together, we have collaborated on several projects. For example, we developed a UDP-based application level protocol for communicating between an Apache web server and a Windows NT text-to-speech server. We also developed a system based on Perl scripts and Procmail which integrates e-mail into Bridgecom's unified messaging platform, with Dave taking the lead on most of that development. Dave's primary responsibility at Bridgecom is one that we did not collaborate on, however. He was the sole author of extension modules for an Apache server running under Windows NT. These modules provide database access to Bridgecom's web site and to the Windows client programs Bridgecom is developing. These Apache modules are one of the fundamental elements in Bridgecom's current unified messaging platform. In addition to this project work, Dave also took an active role in helping to organize Bridgecom's development group and introduced the use of CVS at Bridgecom. During the time Dave and I have worked together, I have formed a good opinion of his abilities. In my view, his strengths are: a. a quick grasp of, and a logical approach to, complex technical issues, b. a good understanding of the protocols used in TCP/IP networks, c. a good understanding of software design and method-based coding practices, and d. good communication skills. In addition, Dave has impressed me with his knowledge of, and experience with, Linux and other Unix-based operating systems. Given his background with both Unix-based systems and with Microsoft's Windows systems, I think you will find Dave's background is unusually broad. To close, I would recommend Dave as a valuable employee. Please feel free to send me a message at jhcrain@primary.net if you have questions about Dave or about the work he has done at Bridgecom.com. Sincerely Yours, James Crain
